Salix’s Dedication to the IBD Community

Salix’s Dedication to the IBD Community

NOTE: I was compensated by Salix Pharmaceuticals for this post. However, all opinions are my own.

What is Salix?

Salix Pharmaceuticals is a U.S.-based pharmaceutical company that specializes in gastrointestinal health. In 2015, Salix was named the largest independent gastrointestinal specialty pharmaceutical company in the world.

In 1989, founders Randy W. Hamilton and Lorin K. Johnson, PhD, found that the IBD community was in need of more effective patient treatments. This began a journey that would lead to many medicines that patients with GI conditions are familiar with today.

Salix

Salix’s Commitment

Salix remains committed to helping IBD patients as they continue their research of gastrointestinal diseases. In addition, they are dedicated to working side-by-side with patients, doctors, and educational organizations (such as Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation) to support excellent gastrointestinal healthcare.

Salix has recently partnered with Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation for their community Take Steps Walks in major cities across the country. Some of the larger walks include Chicago, Boston, Dallas, as well as other smaller cities. For more information on how you can participate in your local Take Steps Walk, click here. You can also follow the hashtag #TakeSteps to keep up with all the events taking place across the country from May to September (which I like to call Take Steps season).

My Experience with Take Steps

TakeSteps

I have been involved with a couple of Take Steps walks, myself. Each time it was a different experience. What I love most about it is meeting with others in the community who share my disease. I’ve been able to make long-lasting friendships. Some of those include my friends Mattie, Maddie and Brionne. We all keep in touch and I look forward to joining them in other Take Steps events in the future.

Another way Salix is proving their commitment to the IBD community is through their Live Education Series Events. Through these events being held in major cities such as Los Angeles, Houston and Phoenix, Salix seeks to help educate the general public (as well as patients and caregivers) about Crohn’s and UC.
